Common documents

Prepared for life’s important paperwork.

Not every document is eligible for remote notarization. Colorado does not permit wills, codicils, or documents purporting to be wills or codicils to be remotely notarized. Send a quick note to determine the appropriate appointment type; document-specific legal questions should be directed to an attorney or the receiving organization.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions.

What do I need for my appointment?+

Bring an acceptable, current government-issued photo ID and your complete but unsigned document. For online sessions, you’ll also need a device with a camera, microphone, and reliable internet.

Can you give me legal advice?+

No. I am not an attorney, and neither my notary commission nor my Certified Paralegal credential authorizes me to practice law. I cannot select or draft documents for you, explain their legal effect, determine whether they meet your needs, or provide legal advice. Please consult a licensed attorney for legal guidance.

Are all documents eligible for remote notarization?+

No. Eligibility depends on the document, the requested notarial act, the signer’s circumstances, and applicable law. Colorado prohibits remote notarization of wills, codicils, and documents purporting to be wills or codicils. A receiving organization may also impose its own acceptance requirements.

Can I be outside Colorado?+

For eligible remote notarizations, the signer may be outside Colorado while the Colorado notary must be physically located within the state. Additional rules apply when a signer is outside the United States.

Should I sign before the appointment?+

Usually not. Wait to sign until the notary instructs you during the appointment.
